Thank you for not trying to fix this.

The tears started as soon as I dropped off Nico at school on Friday. An emptiness set in – the holidays, kids with Matt’s family, not much work to do, plans falling through for Christmas eve and Christmas day. I was suddenly hit with a wave of grief. I pulled over because it was hard to see through the puddles forming in my eyes and called my friend Viola. “I’m having a really hard moment,” I began. “I won’t see the boys for a while, I don’t have plans for Christmas, I don’t have a partner, I’m tired of being alone all the time, I’m afraid I’ll be alone forever. I’m just feeling really sorry for myself… ” I wept.

“Oh honey,” she replied. “I know this feeling so well. I’m so sorry you’re feeling that right now.”

We continued to talk, made some plans for the week, caught up on our lives, talked about how the holidays bring up so much and it’s never perfect. At the end of the conversation, I felt so much better. “Thank you,” I told her, “for just letting me have that emotion in its pure form. Thank you for not talking me out of it – that was an incredible gift.”

I’ve thought about this a lot in the days since – how quickly that feeling was able to move through when it was simply felt, honored and witnessed. It would have been easy for her to argue the feeling – you’re not alone, you have your boys and your friends and your family that loves you… and however true, that wasn’t the point. That would have simply layered on shame for feeling the feeling in the first place. I would have ended up apologizing for being so indulgent.

Sociologist Dr. Christine Carter says that strong emotions only actually last about 90 seconds. That is, if we let ourselves feel them without adding any story or suppressing them. They are e-motions, designed to move through us. (Think of a child and how quickly they move from one emotion to the next)

This is good news for us. Sometimes we are afraid that if we move toward our difficult feelings they will devour us, drag us under and engulf us. What’s more true is that allowing ourselves to have them, while shining a light of loving attention on them (either from ourselves or another) is a very miraculous kind of medicine.

We can practice this. We can trust in time that this is how it works.

Ready to put on your cape? Superhero School is here!

Hey sweet friends,

Doing some happy cartwheels over here thinking about all of you gathering together with me in 2019 for a deep dive into growing our superpowers! And by superpowers, I mean amplifying the parts of ourselves that allow for more aliveness, joy and power.

What we pay attention to, thrives. -Karen Maezen Miller

We will begin the program by creating a clear intention/goal/dream that inspires you. What would you most like to create in 2019? This could be anything from a creative project like a book to a vibrant love relationship. (Uh, yes please to both!)

Each month, we will explore a different theme – courage, intuition, creativity and connection. By strengthening each of these muscles, we will create better conditions for your wish/intention to unfold.

And the even better news? Growing these superpowers naturally allows for more joy and aliveness to arise in your life. And you will have access to a gorgeous community of kindred spirits- people who (like you!) are committed to living wisely, authentically + with their hearts wide open.

Superhero School is kind of like Hogwarts for superheroes.  Except instead of learning spells + wand skills, we will be exploring our superpowers – like courage, connection and creativity.

Each month we will explore a different superpower:

February 2019: Cultivating Courage
The everyday kind. The kind that has us raise our hand, use our voice, take little leaps and be seen. It is almost never the grand gestures, but in the tiny ways we move through our lives.

March 2019: Cultivating our Intuition
Learning our knowing speaks to us + how to grow our capacity to listen and find clarity.

April 2019: Cultivating Creativity
We’ve all got it + express it in different ways. This month will help us make creativity an everyday practice – we will learn to see the world through creative eyes.

May 2019: Cultivating Connection
To ourselves, to others, to spirit. Vulnerability, stillness, self-compassion, everyday magic.

How the class works:
-Audio + video lessons from me in a virtual classroom.
-Discovery sheets and exercises.
-Micro-adventures + activities.
-2 live video calls each month for group coaching + community connection.

You will come away with:

  • More confidence, aliveness + resilience.
  • Your unique superpowers + how to cultivate what I call the “Universal Superpowers”
  • How your intuition speaks to you and how to grow your capacity to listen and find clarity.
  • Feeling connected – to yourself, to others, to your community, to your creativity
  • Your Kryptonite – what stops you from growing into the most alive expression of who you are
  • How you uniquely serve the world.

What’s the cost + commitment?

$175/month OR…  you can pay the amount in full of $595- for a discounted rate.
Superhero School is a 4-month commitment and there are no refunds.

Will it be a lot of work?

Heck no! No heavy lifting here. This is a place for delight. This a place where you get to show up each day and feel energized and inspired. This is a place where you know you are putting attention on that little seed of a dream in your heart.

What if I can’t make the live coaching calls?

Have no fear! I will be recording all of the group coaching sessions we hold on the Zoom video platform. And if you have questions ahead of time, you can send them to me! These sessions (held twice a month) will be on Fridays at 10am PST.

Wait, what is it?

This is a sanctuary for a group of amazing people (like you!) who are ready to create a gorgeous 2019. Each month, we come together to explore + practice things like creativity, courage and cultivating our intuition. We go deep. We connect with each other and make some magic. It’s playful and real – a place to tell the truth and tend the seeds of our intentions and dreams.

Dates of the course: Monday, February 4th – May 31st, 2019
