Let’s increase our capacity for delight.

elevating the ordinary, shot with Canon 6D

“Whether success or failure: the truth of a life really has little to do with its quality. The quality of life is in proportion, always, to the capacity for delight. The capacity for delight is the gift of paying attention.”
~ May Sarton

That’s what photography helps me do – increase my capacity for delight. A simple walk around the block becomes a moving meditation, one of the ways I can wake up to what normally passes me by. The tiny worlds that are hidden from view suddenly come to life.

It’s a way to say thank you.

Are you ready to increase your capacity for delight?

Elevate the Ordinary starts on January 28th.

I’d love to have you!

Fabulous! Perfect words to spark some everyday magic-making. I was just delving into this topic over the weekend: http://wonderstated.com/2013/01/13/walkable-magic/

PS: Love the way “moving meditation” feels in your mouth. I’m gonna start using that :)

    Miss Andrea —

I’ve been visiting you here a long time, and would never hawk any wares (I live in Berkeley but work for a NY publisher). And yet . . . I get the feeling you really might want to know about this book at this particular moment: http://pages.simonandschuster.com/onlooking

(I hope I’m right! That would be a kind of delight to me.)

Of course my motivation is entirely personal, not at all professional — it’s just a happy confluence with this part of my life!

That May Sarton was something special. My dad and step-mother live in Maine and spent time with her there before she passed away some years ago. She’s shared her collection of May Sarton books with me- which I love. But what’s funny is I don’t specifically recall this quote you posted. And what’s even funnier is that I just the other day randomly wrote this down on a painted piece of paper and thumb-tacked it above my desk for a daily reminder: “You’ll be a better artist if you pay more attention.” Knowing that “better” or “worse” is subjective, I used it here with my intention to expand my creativity and artistry as opposed to establishing a hierarchy, as it may come across as sounding. Anyhow, I like that there was this tiny cosmic connection between May Sarton, you, and me (and likely many others) in this moment. Thanks for that.
